Reed in Asia - Asian Diaries
A day off with no plans
We had a long lie in bed the next morning, no plans for the day and still thinking about the day before I was feeling quite pleased with myself. I eventually got up and went for a shower and then made us both a hot drink. When we were sitting by the window sipping our drinks and smoking later, I asked On if she had any ideas about what to do today. She thought about it for a while, but it was already nearly lunchtime, so we couldn't really go out anywhere far for the day and she said that she couldn't really think of anywhere to go anyway. I then asked her if there was anywhere where I could get an English Sunday lunch, Thai food is good, but I just fancied a roast dinner for a change. She thought about this and then said that there was a place near Soi Cowboy that had English food, I asked her where Soi Cowboy was and she said that it was near Sukhumvit road and she told me that it was a street just like Patpong full of Go-Go bars, but she said that the place that she was telling me about was not on Soi Cowboy itself, it was on the road at the end of there, on Sukhumvit Soi 23. So after On had had a shower and we had both got dressed, we went to the car and I let On direct me to this place, it only took us about twenty minutes and it was an easy drive from the hotel. I parked the car on Soi 23 and On then pointed to the place, it was a British pub called the 'George and Dragon'. We went in there and inside it was just like any normal British pub and for the first time since I had been in Thailand, I could actually get a 'Pint of draft beer' in there. We sat at a table near the window and a girl brought us a menu, looking through the menu, they had all of the English favourites in there, roast beef, cottage pie, fish and chips, pork pie, etc. This looked very good to me and I ordered the Sunday lunch for myself and I asked On what she would like, she said that she wanted Thai food and spoke in Thai with the girl serving for a while, then she smiled and told me that she could get any Thai food in there too.
When the food arrived, my meal was on a big plate and had roast beef, roast potatos, peas, carrots and yorkshire pudding and a gravy bowl came with it too, it looked wonderful to me, I hadn't eaten real English food for a long time now, I asked the waitress what sauces they had, she told me and then I asked for the English Mustard, HP sauce and Tabasco sauce, I like it spicy a little. On had fried rice, sticky rice, a bowl of Tom Yam and some Papaya salad and we both tucked into our meals. The food was very good and very filling and I ordered a good Brandy to top it all off. I liked this pub as much as the Tavvern, there was even a dartboard in here too, so now I had found, or rather I had been shown, a second local for me.
We stayed in the George and Dragon all afternoon that day, I practiced my darts a little and On chatted with some of the staff there and she seemed quite happy. A while later, I suggested going to the Tavvern for a quick drink and to settle up with Tony for On's nights off. On agreed, so I paid the bill at the bar and we went to the car, On directed me to Patpong and I found it quite an easy drive, I was beginning to recognise some of the roads now and I was forming a mental map of Bangkok in my head now. In the Tavvern, Tony came to sit with me and asked me about what I had been doing, On went to chat with her friends in there and they were all asking her questions, we only stayed there for about one hour and then I drove us back to the hotel. In the hotel we went to sit in the lounge, the Philippino singer waved at us and as usual now the next song that they played was 'Hello' just for us. I was sitting there with On, listening to the music, looking at her and many things were going through my mind, I felt very comfortable with On now and we had great times together, this weekend had been a very good weekend for me and this girl??? We finished the night off in the disco as we always did now and we danced a lot, then we went up to our room at a fairly reasonable time because I had to go to work again the next day, the weekend was over now.
'And so it goes On!'
This was a very long time ago and for anyone that is interested the 'George and Dragon' is nïwÿclled 'The Ship Inn' and is in the same location.

I shall be adding to this site over time, so if anyone is interested then please have a little patience and call back here from time to time. One of my very few pleasures in life these days is beer so I shall be occasionally referring to beer, I just wish that beer was the only reason that I am legless all the time
Thanks for viewing my site, cheers for now, Legless
