Reed in Asia - Asian Diaries
Good news for a change
The next morning we just relaxed in bed for a long time, then we lazily got up, sat at the coffee table and I made hot drinks for us. Being used to working every day, I felt at a bit of a loose end, I had no plans for the day at all. After a while we eventually made our way down to the coffee shop and had some breakfast, then after breakfast, I thought that we could just take a walk down to the nearby market and also look around the shops for a while, just for something to do. As we were leaving the hotel a little later, the girl at reception called me over and gave me a telex, it was from GQ and they said that they had transferred money for me to take care of the gun counterweight, so I had to go to the bank and collect it. We drove to the bank because it was about two kilometres away and I collected the money and locked it in my briefcase. We then just had a drive around and On said that she would like to go to Laksi Plaza to do some shopping, so I drove there and parked the car. This was quite interesting for me because although I had driven past it many times now, I had never been in the Plaza before, so I enjoyed just walking around and looking at the shops whilst On did some shopping in the supermarket there. When On had finished her shopping, she came and found me and then we drove back to the hotel. It was now mid-afternoon because we had only woken up late that morning, so when we entered the hotel, I went to the lounge for a beer and On took the shopping up to the room. I had barely taken a sip from my beer when Dumrong rushed into the hotel and came to me, he said to me "Have you heard the news?" and I replied that I didn't listen to the news, so he went on to tell me that the trouble on the Laos border was now over and that Chiloey would be returning the following day. This was good news for me, because maybe I could get this problem with the counterweight sorted out now. Dumrong sat down and I ordered him a beer, he then told me that when Chiloey did get back he would be very busy with meetings and interviews for quite a while, so he suggested that we should go and meet his helicopter when it arrived the following day at RTAF Headquarters and maybe then we could get his attention and explain the problem with the counterweight before he got too involved with his meetings. This sounded like a good idea to me so I agreed and I asked him what time the helicopter was due in, he replied that he didn't know at that time, but that he would find out from RTAF HQ later.
Hearing the news about Chiloey's return cheered me up a little and I ordered a brandy to go with my beer . Dumrong left after finishing his beer and as he was leaving he said that he would come back to see me later after he had been to RTAF HQ. On came down to join me a little later and I told her about the good news for me, she said that she had been watching the TV in the room and she had heard about it on the news. On then said that she would like a Thai whisky and soda, so I ordered one for her and another brandy for me . Sitting there drinking my brandy, I suddenly remembered about all of the money that I had in the briefcase on the floor next to me, so I excused myself to On and quickly took it to the room. Back in the lounge again, I decided that we should have a good meal that night in the restaurant in the hotel, I did really enjoy the lobster that I had in there before, so I asked On about this and she smiled and said that she would really enjoy that too, so I then went into the restaurant and booked a table for 21:00 that evening. As I sat down at the table again, the band was just setting up for the evening and the singer waved to us, which we acknowledged and just by that fairly insignificant action from the singer, I knew what the first song that night would be and I was right! Dumrong returned a little later and he informed me that Chiloey's helicopter would be arriving at 14:00 the next day, he then said that he had to go home and quickly left.
We just had a relaxing evening that night, we had our meal then came back to the lounge and listened to the music and then as usual, we finished the night off in the discotheque, well, not quite finished!

I shall be adding to this site over time, so if anyone is interested then please have a little patience and call back here from time to time. One of my very few pleasures in life these days is beer so I shall be occasionally referring to beer, I just wish that beer was the only reason that I am legless all the time
Thanks for viewing my site, cheers for now, Legless
